Welthungerhilfe in Afghanistan

Since the beginning of our activities in Afghanistan in 1980, Welthungerhilfe has carried more than 120 projects amounting to a total of 63 million euros. Our main activities include rehabilitation of local and rural infrastructure, food security, protection of resources and strengthening of civil society.

Selected projects in Cambodia: Reintegration of young people

In Phnom Penh and Kampong Cham many young people and children are living under difficult circumstances such as extreme poverty on the streets or under poor housings conditions. Welthungerhilfe helps to reintegrate them into the society and to improve their livelihoods.

Welthungerhilfe in India

Education for all children - is not granted in India despite a legal framework for regular school attendance of all Indian children. Kalamadia District in the state of Orissa, belongs to one of the most under-developed regions of India. Here Welthungerhilfe together with its Indian partner organisation Sikshasandhan wants to develop educational approaches which will work.

Selected projects in Indonesia: Rehabilitation of Livelihoods

Due to the Tsunami and to an earthquake in 2006, many families in the project area lost their homes, possessions, fishing boats and farm land. After supporting the reconstruction of homes, Welthungerhilfe now helps the inhabitants of 39 villages towards rehabilitatation, development and improvement of their livelihoods.

Selected project in Laos: Rural Development

Xay and Namor are amongst the poorest districts in Laos. Roads as well as other basic infrastructure are still feebly developed and access to many villages is difficult or even impossible especially during the rainy season. Welthungerhilfe supports the improvement of the food security and socio-economic situation of the people.
Welthungerhilfe in Myanmar
Welthungerhilfe has been working in Myanmar since 2002. Our work is focused on securing food and water supplies in the north-east of the country and the areas surrounding Rangoon. Since 2002 we have carried out 39 projects with a volume of approximately 25 million euros. Around 50 Welthungerhilfe personnel are currently at work in the affected area.

Welthungerhilfe North Korea

In 1997 Welthungerhilfe started implementing projects in North Korea. Since then, we have completed 50 projects amounting to approximately 55 million euros. Our work focuses on food security, seed and agricultural production, forestry, drinking-water supply and sanitary facilities.

Sri Lanka: Reconstruction after 26 years of war

In 2009 the long civil war could finally be declared as over in Sri Lanka. Welthungerhilfe and its partners organisation Sewalanka Foundation are supporting around 3.800 Tamil families resettling in the districts of Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, Kilinochchi and Jaffna in the North of Sri Lanka. Here the village infrastructure and new income possibilities will be created.

Welthungerhilfe in Tajikistan
Since the beginning of our activities in Tajikistan in 1994, Welthungerhilfe has carried out 60 projects amounting to a total of 81.3 million euros. Our main activities include rehabilitation and disaster prevention, food security, resource management as well as income-generating measures and allocation of small loans through partner organisations.
