Welthungerhilfe's Board of Directors elects Dr. Wolfgang Jamann as new chairman

Dr. Wolfgang Jamann, Welthungerhilfe's new
chairman.(27.04.2009) Dr. Wolfgang Jamann is set to be Welthungerhilfe's new chairman. The 48 year old who has a doctor in social studies and development will follow Dr. Hans-Joachim Preuss after he takes up his new post as executive director of the German GTZ (Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit).
Jamann spent five years as CEO of CARE Deutschland-Luxemburg. Prior to this he was – amongst other things - Head of Emergency Operations with World Vision in Germany. He looks back on more than 20 years of experience in the field of development cooperation and humanitarian relief. On the back of many years spent working in Africa and Asia, he is familiar with the causes, contexts and circles of poverty in the South. "You can only understand the problems and suffering of the local people if you listen to them and put yourself in their position," explains Wolfgang Jamann as the credo behind his work ethic. "This is the only way to successfully alleviate poverty."
Bärbel Dieckmann, Welthungerhilfe's President, welcomes the new chairman at the top. "Wolfgang Jamann is an excellent candidate and the perfect successor to continue the outstanding work begun by Hans-Joachim Preuss."
Dr. Jamann will take up his new post as of 1st August 2009.
