Welthungerhilfe in Cuba: Improving live for more than 350,000 people

Woman watering tomatoes in Cuba. Welthungerhilfe initiated its work in Cuba in 1993 with the local non-governmental organization Cuban Association for Animal Production (ACPA). Later, more Cuban NGOs became partners of Welthungerhilfe, like the Association of Agricultural and Forest Technicians (ACTAF) and ProNaturaleza.
With our joint work, we have been able to contribute to improve the live of more than 350,000 people, amongst them children, farmers and members of cooperatives and their families. Supporting sustainable production of food, we have created thousands of employments and improved the supply and access to food of high quality and reasonable prices for the Cuban population. We coordinate our work regularly with local governments and the respective ministry. To achieve better results we cooperate closely with other development organizations, especially HIVOS, our partner in the NGO Network Alliance 2015.
Corresponding to the strengths of our organization, we focus on the following topics: Emergency relief, disaster prevention, regional and rural development, food security, agriculture, livestock and forestry and natural resource management in Cuba. Training and strengthening of our Cuban counterpart organizations and beneficiaries, HIV & Aids as well as gender form important aspects of all our projects.
