Over 6.600 projects in 70 countries since 1962

In 2010, Welthungerhilfe had a total amount of € 216.3 million at its disposal. About € 76.2 million were donated, the rest was granted by institutions like the federal government, the European Commission, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the World Food Programme and the U.S.-American government.

Expenditures for administration added up to 1.6 per cent of the total, advertising and public relations accounted for 4.7 per cent. In 2008, Welthungerhilfe implemented 328 projects in 38 countries and in Germany. The main focus of the projects has been on activities on crises and catastrophies (emergency aid), followed by rural and regional development, and social integration and education.

Welthungerhilfe's activities are focusing on Africa at present. Around half of all projects we are supporting are scattered among 20 African countries: seven in East Africa, six in West Africa, four in Central Africa and three in Southern African countries.

Politically speaking, the countries of Southeast and Central Asia do not have a lot in common. They do share one thing, however. A large part of the population lives below the poverty line and is in many cases dependent on foreign food aid.
