Over 5,500 projects in 70 countries since 1962

In 2008, Welthungerhilfe had a total amount of € 147.7 million at its disposal. About € 37.1 million were donated, the rest was granted by institutions like the federal government, the European Commission, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the World Food Programme and the U.S.-American government.

Expenditures for administration added up to 2.4 per cent of the total, advertising and public relations accounted for 5.1 per cent. In 2008, Welthungerhilfe implemented 321 projects in 46 countries and in Germany. The main focus of the projects has been on rural and regional development, followed by basic infrastructure and emergency aid activities.

Politically speaking, the countries of Southeast and Central Asia do not have a lot in common. They do share one thing, however. A large part of the population lives below the poverty line and is in many cases dependent on foreign food aid.
