A massive earthquake of 7.9 shook Nepal and its neighbouring countries. Particularly rural areas around Kathmandu are affected.

"We support the region immediately with our emergency response team in order to provide direct help to the affected people. Many houses are collapsed, there are metre-long cracks in the streets as our local colleagues report, they feel massive aftershocks", says Mathias Mogge, Welthungerhilfe Director Programmes. "We are in contact with our local colleagues, they are already on an assessment tour to find out the whole impact of the catastrophe."
