Orientation Framework WASH

Requirements for providing sustainable water and sanitation services

In February 2013 Welthungerhilfe completed the development of an Orientation Framework Water, Sanitation and Hygiene – commonly known as WASH.

Orientation Framework WASH

Based on the results of a sector evaluation and latest research in the WASH sector, the Orientation Framework focuses on the fundamental requirements for providing water and sanitation services that can make a successful impact on hunger and poverty reduction. Putting the user first, addressing sustainability, converting needs into demand, and most of all, the promotion of hygiene behaviour change to effectively block the transmission of waterborne diseases, are some of the issues addressed in the 68-page publication, which serves as a benchmark against which Welthungerhilfe intends to weigh future actions and decisions in the sector.
